Special rewatch here for me.
Recently have succumbed to the physical media addiction and found myself near the mecca (Barnes & Noble Union Square). Shockingly I exhibited no self control and ended up walking out with several new pickups including my favorite movie of all time Catch Me If You Can on glorious 4K.
I had this on while I packed for a trip tomorrow and cleaned up my apartment so wasn’t completely dialed in, but really loved how crisp and vibrant the colors were with this version. I also realize I have never really analyzed this movie in a review before despite it being my long standing top favorite.
I think what resonates with me is that it’s a story of a confused young man trying to charm his way into understanding what he wants. He misses his family and is looking to fill that gap in any way he can. It’s honestly a somber story because no matter how charming he is and no matter how polished of a facade he puts up, he is deep down just a lost kid who wants the safety of his childhood that he can’t get back.
I’m not sure what it is about this movie that I love so much. Honestly it’s probably just the memories of watching it over and over, quoting with my family, and identifying it with a plethora of positive childhood memories. Today’s viewing will be the first of many on the beautiful 4K viewings. Today’s viewing though built its own memory of the day I picked up, out of sea of movies at the Mecca, my own copy of the greatest movie of all time. Just another memory that I get to enjoy for the rest of time.
