Four Good Days covers a very dark and heavy subject, known as drug abuse and relapse. Despite its heavy nature, the film is pretty easy to watch. Pacing and runtime help out a lot.
The movie doesn't really stand out. I will probably forget about its existence in one or two hours, however, the acting performances are truly outstanding. I haven't seen Mila Kunis in anything other than a comedy series, "That '70s Show," so I was left dumbfounded by her performance in a drama film. Her portrayal of a drug addict is very authentic and convincing. Glenn Close is also wonderful at portraying the mother of a drug user. She's believable, and you empathize with her a lot.
As impressive as their performances are, it actually is the only thing you take away from this film. The storyline is very superficial and doesn't really dive into the horrors of drug abuse. It's almost like a PG adaptation of a drug addiction story. I know it is based on a real story, but I can't help but notice the lighthearted tone the director chose for this movie.
If you want to watch a dark, psychologically draining movie about drugs, I suggest you find another film. Four Good Days is like a snack you eat before the main course.
