Feels very lowkey and minor for Bergman, but yet it’s still littered with philosophical musings as well as a plethora of feminist-leaning dialogue surrounding all female plights in relation to patriarchal monogamy. I really enjoyed it and despite its more reserved nature, I already find myself fondly reminiscing about the whole affair. Bergman understands a lot about being human. The film feels strikingly secular, not only because of its sexual politics but also because of the grandfather’s verbalized understanding of “god.”
