Day of the animals have animals running amok, Leslie Nielsen fighting a bear and a dire warning about global warming I'm sure we will listen to this time. So it's a tense and fun creature feature.
Day of the animals is kind of like the happening but good. It also has animals going after humanity instead of trees.
I'll start with the animals. The shots of nature and attacks look good. What helps the movie a lot is the build up. There is a sense of dread before all the chaos happens as the animals stalk them. It's one of my favorite parts of the movie. The attacks are great too. Again it has this build up from minor attacks to a full on fight. I also appreciated that it's really how animals would attack.
The story is simplistic in all the best ways. There Is a dire warning about the ozone layer, some characters unwittingly going into danger and animals killing them. It also does something I like where it's a smaller bottle story in the woods at first then gradually showing the impact on the world. It's fun, tense at moments and keeping it simple.
The characters aren't the most complex or interesting but still likeable. They fall into the I probably won't remember your name but your cool category in these kinds of movies. Leslie Nielsen has the most memorable moment of him fighting a bear. So the characters are fun and likeable and that's enough.
I do like the ending too. Much like the happening it ends on a ominous note with some survivors. The ending has som striking visuals too. What I like the most about it though is that there was no plan for us to stop it. It just happened. When done well I always find that a cool note to end movies like these.
Day of the animals is a good time all around. It has dread, fun moments and cool animal attacks. I quite liked it.

This is now one of my favourite movies of all time, it’s criminally underrated and an amazing time, its the peak of 70s disaster movies.

Leslie Nielsen Marathon: PART 25
I honestly really enjoyed this!
I think it was well shot, had some great performances, an interesting plot, and Leslie Nielsen ATTACKING A BEAR. Yeah, if you can’t tell, I kind of love this.

Absolutely worth watching just for shirtless Leslie Nielsen to go absolutely insane and start wrestling a bear
