DON'T GIVE UP, YOU ARE WORKERS, YOU ARE WORKERS. COMRADES, LET'S CONTINUE WITH THE STRIKE, TO WIN DEFINITIVELY! TO FORM A NEW SOCIETY, WHERE THERE ARE NO POOR NOR RICH, WHERE THERE ARE NO WEAPONS, WHERE THERE IS JOY AND RESPECT FOR HUMAN BEINGS
Based on real events and banned during the dictatorship, it is a film that never gets old.
The film shows the complicity of economic power through British interests in the region, and the collaboration of internal actors. Also, going to a more basic level, it should be noted how certain politicians make mistakes in their discourse when, after calling unionized workers to their cause, they do not listen to the true aspirations of those they represent, and decide to act on their own for their own benefit.
It is not a fictionalized documentary, it is a cinematic story about how the country was built a century ago with its winners and losers, with its violence, its betrayals and loyalties and, especially, with that set of brutal injustices that (although in a much more subtle and moderate way) have never been eradicated in third world societies.
Rarely has Argentine cinema been able to bring together such a brilliant cast, figures such as Pepe Soriano, Luis Brandoni, Federico Luppi and my king, HÉCTOR ALTERIO, give a masterclass in acting, all very well exploited by the excellent direction of Héctor Olivera and with a magnificent setting.
The people will try by all means to survive, fighting or surrendering, and believing in the power that later betrays them.
The rich (national and foreign) will seek to use all their influence in their favor, to try to get the last drop of their effort from the people and continue earning money voraciously.
The military will be tough and will sacrifice lives unnecessarily, supporting the interests of power, in pursuit of an illogical and unjust cause, which is reflected in the great final scene.
Does all this sound familiar to you? Surely it does, since it can be applied to today.
Defects of the film? Some technical issues in certain scenes (deaths for example) that have not been fully resolved. But I won't give it much importance.
Is it entertaining? Yes, and you want to see it until the end. When it starts we feel that taste of the old and we think we won't last long in front of it, but then the film takes care of showing us that we were wrong.
