I remember sitting there trying to find something scary to watch because I really love horror movies, but only when they're done well. Here's the thing about me – I don't get scared by ghosts, maniacs, zombies, any of that typical horror stuff. None of it bothers me. But animals? Bears, wolves, tigers, shit like that? That actually terrifies me. Movies where animals hunt people – that genuinely freaks me out, especially when it's shot really well with a good atmosphere
So it had both. The movie was shot really well, and if I'm not mistaken, Serebryakov plays the lead. It was so cool. Constant tension, animals attacking people, that dark aesthetic of cold rural Russia. That was genuinely awesome
And look, I know modern Russian cinema is generally considered kind of meh. But this one? Not meh. It's really good. It literally punches through that armor where you know it's just a movie, it's just filming, half of its CGI, half of its just actors doing their job, none of its actually happening. And you still get scared
This movie did its job really well. Kept the tension up, made you scared. But the jump scares weren't constant – you're sitting there not knowing when the hell something's gonna pop out at you
So yeah, I definitely recommend it. It's way better than a lot of American horrors out there
