Them eagles gonna be pissed when they hear they’re not getting a Rise of the Planet of the Birds sequel

This made me pretty hopeful that sequels can still be good. Is it Dawn or War level? Nah, but it’s still a really fun time, and I’d say it’s around the same level as Rise. I think they justified this movies existence very well with how Proximus twisted Caesar’s message to manipulate the apes. Kinda feels like what ➡️**SOME⬅️** people be doing nowadays with religion. And while I thought the ending could’ve been more epic, I did enjoy that it wasn’t some happily ever after kinda ending. Let’s be honest, humanity can barely handle each other, we could not coexist with another species of matching intelligence and autonomy

When the trailers first came out for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, I was cautiously optimistic. I didn't think the effects looked very good and I thought that War concluded the trilogy perfectly which I consider to be one of the best ever. I wasn't sure about the direction that this new film was going to take, but I can fortunately say that Kingdom is a great addition to the series.

I was shocked to see that people saw this without seeing any of the other films and were disappointed with it. It's like opening up the middle of a book and reading it from there. This is the start of a new trilogy and sort of functions as a reboot, but you have to watch the first three films to enjoy it. It's necessary to appreciate Caesar's impact and to understand how to apes have evolved. You get to see them go from normal apes to intelligent, complex beings. Starting at Kingdom would be very awkward, I'm sure. While they do give you some opening exposition describing what's happened in the past, it's not detailed enough to skip 6.5 hours worth of films.

I really enjoyed the new characters. Noa isn't a just a new Caesar which could have easily happened. He's experienced an entirely different world than Caesar and therefore has different views. Mae (even though The Acolyte has made me hate that name) is a very interesting character. I'm glad that she was written to not be a stereotypical "lone survivor" character. There's a lot more to her than I expected and I'm happy with the direction they went with her. Proximus Caesar was a highlight, for sure. I wish he had more screentime because he doesn't show up until the halfway point, but he certainly leaves a lasting impression. Very cool character.

I'd be remiss to not mention the special effects. I said before that I was worried about them not reaching the levels of the previous films, but they're somehow even better here. I didn't think they could possibly improve, but it seems I was wrong. One problem the other films have with the effects is that not all of the apes look as good as Caesar, Maurice, or Koba. In this film, they've managed to make each ape look realistic even when there are hundreds of them on screen at once. The environments also look gorgeous. Some of them were real, but the CGI ones looked very convincing. I really hope they get acknowledged at the academy awards for VFX because they definitely deserve it.

There were some slow points in Kingdom, but I would much rather have a film like this take it's time setting things up. In fact, I would have liked to spend more time on world building in the first half of the film.

My only concern about this new trilogy is: What now? It honestly felt like this film ended in a decent spot and I'm not sure where things could possibly go unless they use a new set of different characters. I'm curious to see what they have in store for the future though and ideally I can catch the next one in theaters.
