Love the style and everything about this movie, but deviation from original story was too big for me to give the 5 star

Some folks are born into an It’s A Wonderful Life family, others are born into A Christmas Story family. Unfortunately my mom married into a Christmas Carol family. Normally I don’t mind that too much, as typically we watch the 1938 film. For some god forsaken reason, this year we watched this instead. Biggest waste of my time. Could’ve finally watched Titanic or Lawrence of Arabia in this time, but alas it was spent on this piece of rubbish.

Such a raw and dark depiction of this story, super overlooked in my opinion, maybe my second favorite version (we all know what’s first).

Pretty divergent from the book but I think the ending of not really redeeming him serves this story better, as there is no redeeming that shit.

I do feel that the story is a bit unbalanced, there is wayyyy more time spent in the past than the other too, this is present in most of the adaptations but it’s pretty extreme in this one.
