Infinity referenced, the introduction to SPECTRE, Mike Shinoda’s inspiration for faint, and Bond finally facing someone who equals his wit and fighting. I can see why people still talk about it. Of course it has its flaws, projected backgrounds, and harsh camera cuts but over all an iconic movie that still holds up.

Much better than Dr. No but it's still not perfect. The helicopter scene remined me of the crop duster scene from North by Northwest. Also, I loved Pedro Armendáriz.

This movie feels like Bond has finally gotten in its flow.

Unlike Dr. No, From Russia With Love has a Bond theme, Q makes his first appearance, and SPECTRE and Blofeld introduced. Deniela Bianchi is a captivating Bond girl in this film, and this Bond feels more romantic than the rest simply due to their chemistry.

It honestly just feels like they have established the formula, and are waiting to blow it out. Bond is a simple formula that works, but it's easy to take for granted how radical this was at the time. The more films from the 50s and 60s I watch, the more I appreciate how dramatically this franchise pushed forward the modern action movie.

This movie also remains captivating throughout unlike Dr. No. Rather than having a big set piece, they have lots of great gags and challenges Bond has to overcome, from the outstanding train fight to the helicopter chase. Connery is even better in this film, bringing more physicality and charm.

This movie suffers only slightly from not having a CENTRAL villain, but great performances from Robert Shaw and Lotte Lenya lift it up. The Shaw v. Connery fight scene on the train is one of the best in the early franchise.

It feels like it took the first two films to establish the tone, and I look forward to rewatching Goldfinger and seeing them blow expectations out of the water.
