I first came across this film on TikTok, featuring the bus scene where Nancy tells Red Dog to be a gentleman and scoot over. That moment hooked me, and I instantly wanted to know more. The film left a strong impression and truly deserves more recognition in the U.S. It’s based on a true story, and serves as a great showcase of Australian cinema. I highly recommend watching it.
That said, the color correction threw me off a bit, and Red Dog genuinely looked redish due to the warm, orangey tones. Still, the emotional weight of the story? Is heartbreaking. Watching Red Dog wait for John to come home like he promised, only for John to die in a motorcycle accident-.. Red Dog traveled miles searching for him, only to pass away at his grave, leaving a lasting impact. What makes it even more impactful is that Red Dog wasn’t owned by anyone, he belonged to the whole community.
My only takeaway? If I die and no one shows my dogs where my body is, I swear I’ll haunt every single person down. I refuse to let my dogs think I've abandoned them.
