The dreamlike atmosphere, weird decor and absurd cinematography all blended together into this beautiful world building. And it’s not only the films strongest element– it was also what initially made me want to watch this (besides that Melleane recommended me this). I was looking really up to it however– it looked a touchy bit too arty-farty for my liking, and when I heard It was also really confusing, well… let’s just say that didn’t really my excitement any higher.

Lets just say It didn’t take much more then 20 minutes till this fear became reality. Again, the world-building and cinematography were truly great. However, when the film indeed because confusing– It completely overpowered my enjoyment. Instead of creating a mysterious, tension filled epic, what directers aim to achieve which confusing films, this became a drag and honestly very hard to get trough taking away all excitement I secretly hoped for when starting this film.I’m sorry melleane, this just wasn’t for me.48/100——————————————————————————10 friends– 10 recommendations11/100Recommended by: Melleane

There’s barely any narrative to speak of in this dreamlike film, instead opting to allow its surreal visuals pass us along through a bizarre village and their celebration of death. And to be fair, Mocky’s camera captures some truly eye-catching sequences here of masked figures and foggy streets and all sorts of truly bizarre moments but if you’re going to deny narrative cohesion it would make sense to replace it for something more thematically profound, something a dreamlike film can communicate without a firm structure by experimenting and letting the emotions of the story guide us. But there not much of that here either. It’s just a barrage of nightmarish scenes and throwaway visual ideas with little to string it together. And it’s not as if there’s no value in a film like this as again Mocky is very good at orchestrating this paranoia but I just wanted at least something to hold onto. Still it’s compelling enough to be worth the watch even if I fear it will disappear from my mind like cinematic cotton candy.
