One of the greats when it comes to storytelling and sets. Nothing rivals the intricacies and beauty of the sets and costumes of this film. The action sequences are amazing but man, there’s a whole lot of needless dialogue that overbloats this movie which can make it a drag. I also wasn’t a big fan of the movie just skipping so much time within different parts of the movies like they did a skip from him being in jail to him being in the gally rowing a boat for 3 years and then they skipped another integral part where they just made him a chariot racing legend and didn’t show any of it, like what. I also felt it dragged a bit in the end after the chariot race though the actual end with Jesus was phenomenal. I loved how they tied the movie into the story of Jesus, I thought it was cleverly done. I do really like this film but it could’ve been a masterpiece which really does bum me out a bit because it’s such a beautiful film, I’ll definitely watch it again.

William Wyler's Ben-Hur feels like the face of the American epic. Shot on 65mm color film (Ultra Panavision 70) and premiered in glorious 70mm, Ben-Hur is a behemoth of a film, and a spectacle in every way. The film is based on the 1880 Lew Wallace novel, 'Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. While this film has some Biblical scenes, including Jesus performing miracles, along with his crucifixion, this doesn't feel like a strictly religious epic. Jesus is shot from behind, never showing his face and making it clear our main focus is Ben-Hur.

Ben-Hur is an iconic film. So iconic that I think it'd be sacrilegious to not mention it when talking about the most impactful films in the history of cinema. The chariot race scene is the clear standout in this film, and I think it's the scene everyone pictures when they hear this film. Ben-Hur is a memorable piece of history, and an interesting watch, even if it's 4 hours are definitely felt. It won Best Picture in 1960, and I think it's most definitely deserving because of its scale.

Unless they’re mixed with horror or they’re about some kind of psychologically disturbed characters, I’m not the biggest fan of movies that are heavy on religious themes, but this one truly entertained me.
