In the space of 3 days, Pip has lost her boyfriend, her flat and her terrible, dehumanising job. Craving a new start, she returns home to the Brexit British countryside. Great Expectations retells the classic Dickens novel with a modern and darkly comedic female voice. It engages with questions about society, exploitation, loneliness and how women are viewed, all with a great deal of humour and heart.

I grew up wanting to be Estella, but now, I just want to be Ms. Havisham.

Production design and costume were ✨flawless✨ but this was quite dull. There were so many times I just nodded off because it's a bit slow-paced and quiet at times - which wouldn't be a problem, I don't mind a slow- paced period piece but this was just dull. Olivia Colman as per usual doesn't disappoint. I never read the novel, I've just seen the 1998 version and I liked this ending better. But I wouldn't sit through it again.
