It’s insanely rare for me to take long breaks between a single watch of a film, but I started Green Mansions over a month ago and was so bored, that not only did I stop it, I completely forgot it had even existed until I was looking for a new Hepburn film to watch. I finally started it back up and finished it today and it was just as boring as I remembered. Curse you Mel Ferrer for having Audrey Hepburn co-star in such a bland film. It’s insanely rare for me to take long breaks between a single watch of a film, but I started Green Mansions over a month ago and was so bored, that not only did I stop it, I completely forgot it had even existed until I was looking for a new Hepburn film to watch. A bad movie in general but I love Audrey Hepburn so much, I truly enjoyed the chemistry between Perkins and Hepburn. And she had the cutest little pet deer.

This is movie is everything I hate about The African Queen**, while keeping next to nothing I actually like about that film. The only good thing it has in common is having a great lead actress with the last name “Hepburn”. Unfortunately, unlike The African Queen**, Audrey was not able to save this one. Not even with her co-star being THEE Anthony Perkins. It’s not their fault though, as the whole premise of this film is garbage. It’s so obvious this was filmed on a studio lot, not in the Amazon. The writing is god awful. I can’t even give it props for costuming, as the whole time Audrey is wearing a potato sack of a dress. She makes it look fine, but that’s because she’s Audrey freaking Hepburn, not because the dress is cute. The way this portrays indigenous people is gross. I don’t want to like ever rewatch this… and that’s saying something as an Audrey super-fan. If you want to watch an Audrey movie from 1959, go watch The Nun’s Story** and skip over this one. You’ll thank me later.
