I'm going to echo most everyone else who reviewed this I'm afraid: the concept is awesome, but the execution isn't very good.
The concept? A haunted house underwater, flooded under a lake and buried with its secrets, drawing a couple of scuba divers into its mystery. That's really cool! The house looks amazing too, and it must have been extremely challenging to pull off all the underwater shooting.
Frustratingly though, the lore doesn't go deep enough (pun intended) and is only really revealed via exposition dump at the end. I'm also really tired of the 'inconsiderate loser boyfriend dragging his otherwise entirely sensible girlfriend further and further into danger' trope. At best it's overplayed, and at worst it completely pulls you out of the drama by forcing the characters to make increasingly implausible decisions.
Speaking of inconsiderate loser boyfriend, either his acting is really not good or the script is just that bad, but more likely it's a combination of both because this movie is filled with clunky dialogue that no real person would say! He's not the only one guilty of it but he's the worst offender. Plus what is it with characters saying each others names way too much?! I will forever have the names Ben and Tina etched into my soul whenever I think of The Deep House.
There's a great movie struggling to emerge here, but unfortunately it can't swim hard enough to escape its flaws and eventually it just gets dragged under.
