I’ve been on a little Gian Maria Volonté run recently and have been thoroughly enjoying his work, he’s my favourite actor at the moment and is becoming an all-timer. Slap the Monster on Page One is probably the driest of my recent political dramas featuring Volonté, I found the message very compelling but the execution was just slightly too dull in my opinion (maybe I wasn’t in the right frame of mind). Volonté’s performance was the highlight of the film and even that wasn’t his best, it felt a little colder and more clinical than his other passionate performances, still fantastic acting however. The film’s attack on the sensationalist, politically motivated journalism of Italy at the time was pretty interesting and really highlighted the unstable nature of Italy’s politics in the 1970s. I find it fascinating how the media influences people’s perceptions and beliefs, often motivating them to make certain political decisions caused by the pushed ideology from the media. There’s also the business side of the media, they create moral panic and fearmonger to sell more newspapers and spread their ‘brand’. Overall this was a decent political drama, nothing too special however (except for Gian Maria Volonté of course).

L'inizio l'ho trovato un pelo confusionario e ci ho messo un pò a inquadrare situazione e personaggi, per il resto mi è piaciuto molto in modo in cui si è sviluppato. Finale particolare. Roveda MVP.
