The spy who loved me is an entertaining and fun from Roger Moore who keeps surprising me. I may have misjudged him I admit. The spy who loved me brings beautiful locations, a banger intro, cool action and a badass Bond girl with Barbara Bach. I can see why this one is a favorite but it does have some flaws for me personally.
I'll start with the things I don't quite like. That simply is the villian. His plan as a bond villian works and can be awesome. That being said I didn't feel like he had any staying power because I forgot about him when he wasn't on screen. He just wasn't memorable. The movie had a little bit of a slow pacing. I didn't mind it but the movie could have moved faster especially in the middle of the movie. It never got boring it was just a little slow.
What was great though was Moore. He continues to surprise me with his charm and wit. His dynamic with Barbara Bach was also fantastic too. He brings a cool too in the third act action scene that was one of the highlights of the movie.
The bond girl here is Agent triple X and she is awesome. She definitely got up there with some of my favorite bond girls. Her character arc was intresting too especially with the realization that bond killed her lover. Their relationship throughout was one of the more engaging ones in the series so far for me. Their rivalry is done better than we see later with nomi in nttd. Their relationship feels earned to near the end. She is very beautiful as well and just looks stylish the entire movie.
Jaws was one of the first bond henchman in my memory. Where most chose odd job (that bastard) in goldeneye (I played the ps3 version with my brother not the original one) I chose jaws. He looked cool to me and has a personality. He looks cool and was memorable. So I like him.
The action was definitely better than live and let die. The underwater chase looked great. The entire fight to stop the attack had some tense and cool moments. They aren't the best action scenes in the series but they were entertaining and fun.
The bond theme was just great too. The opening intro fits the movie and I loved the way it looked. The Moore introduction and songs are pretty good so far. The style differenciates itself well from live and let die. Also as the more romantic bond themes go for example writings on the wall, I prefer the older ones. They just stick more with me in the long run.
So I don't call the spy who loved a favorite but it's very good and entertaining. It had everything that makes a classic bond movie for the most part apart from the villian who I didn't enjoy as much this time around. The bond girl and her dynamic with the man himself makes it worth the price of admission. It's is a entertaining time all around.
