rich people problems are really on a whole different scale LMFAOO like i respect a good side hustle but this literally could have all been unfolded in 3 seconds if ann hired a PI when glafria walked that first day & whipped out a never before seen rothko painting.....????? a person i should add she never worked with?????? or heard of in the industry?????? like.....she totally knew glafria was dealing fakes and made the fattest check of her life then let her take the entire fall at the end, im sorry it’s really hard for me to feel sympathy at the idea of her not knowing when it’s this stupid.
also while on this topic, the way rich people put value to these pieces is beyondddddd me. it’s all for the wrong reasons. it’s not even about loving the work & loving the artist but more so how fuckin exclusive it is, like you want to be the ONLY person to own a [insert artist name here] paining; therefore, you’ll throw whatever money u have to just say that..... the art world has such a small audience and they’re just one up-ing each other on who has the exclusive piece and it sucks bc even within that small group are there ever really any true art lovers, it’s just filled w random collectors selling reselling over n over again. and majority of the time these great artists are not even recognized until years after their death and now rich old people are profiting on their ass and that’s even if the family gets some money out of it (don’t even get me started on BIPOC deceased artists, they legitimately paid dust) this is such a weird game to them.. and a very expensive too
not discrediting con victims in general bc yeah the whole point is that it’s enough info to not make u doubt their intentions (like ann did have scholars say the work looked legitimate in the beginning but u literally have no trace of where it came from first & u never hired ur own forensics team... they found out some of those specific colors weren’t even invented/discovered at the time LMAOOOO) there was just so many holes in this case where if these dealers took the time to investigate it wouldn’t have caused EIGHTY MILLION dollars in damages... (the IFAR literally said hey this is sus but u moved on from it lmao what... THE IFAR????? give me a break) but hey that’s just a hot take from a 19 yr old middle class girl so whatever what do i know about art dealing !!!
pei shen getting away w this is just ridiculously funny to me i guess he got the fame he wanted in a sense ???? mf exploited a terrible terrible TERRIBLE system and now is sitting pretty in his house i don’t know what u want me to say other than i wanna buy a pei shen painting now
and of course the cherry on top was that the michael hammer and the family was involved OF COURSEEEEE they are not just good people and it’s been shown time and time again oh wow
