What Josiah Saw is an absolutely weird movie with some downright disturbing moments. This is a hard film to rate because it’s somehow an anthology film but also a typical overall film story. It’s crazy because the film will go off for 40 minutes on a new character where almost all the events that happened have no bearing and could have been shortened to 5. It’s almost comical with how extreme it gets with not focusing on the main story that it actually works in its favor. Instead of a film about the story, it’s a film about the characters with a bonus of a mystery element. And because it focuses on the characters, it makes the ending extremely satisfying as you see how it all plays out. Obviously, the characters are very good. Each is distinct, flawed, and portrayed well by their actor. The horror in the film is very minimal, as it focuses on disturbing moments and the atmosphere. The atmosphere deserves praise as throughout the film, even though nothing too horrifying has happened, the atmosphere keeps you engaged. In a sense, it reminds me a lot of the atmosphere built in There Will Be Blood. The story is minimal and bizarrely paced. The ending and multiple twists are satisfying and leave an impression with all the messed up events that occur. The biggest flaw with the film is just how slow it is and how it’ll build tension and a connection with a character just for us to move on to the next character. Still, this is a solid horror movie with some unique aspects, and worth watching
