Moonraker, the movie bond movie that went to space. So it's clear to say it's one of the most Silliest bond movie. This was also the bond movie that turned me off from Moore Bond because it was just to dumb for me. So how does it hold up ?
Well it still the most silly bond movie, I still think it's my least favorite bond move and we'll it's dumb fun.
I'll start with the negatives. As far as Moore bond goes who leans more into comedic charm and wit. He just too unserious here, he almost feels like a parody of 007 rather than the man himself. Im fine with him being unserious and more comedic but not a parody.
The story is just too silly. A bond movie can deal with space but unlike some franchise like Friday the 13th, Skyline and Hellraiser which I didn't mind going to space. Some like 007 and fast and furious shouldnt go to space because it's just to much. I get it came out during the star wars boom but keep some rules in the series.
The villian is just too cartoonish too. Classic bond villians never have the most grounded of plans but the plan was just a Saturday morning cartoon. The villian himself was fine. He had more presence than the villian the spy who loved me. So that's a plus but I just don't like the plan.
So those were the biggest things that bothered me. So what did I like. Well I'll start with my favorite part. That is Jaws and his love story. It was sweet, funny and I just like Jaws as a henchman. It's a nice ending for his story too.
James bond and Dr Goodhead don't break new ground as character dynamics go. It's still charming and entertaining. Both of them have good chemistry and the go higher than the mile high club at the end so that's an interesting way to end the movie but it makes sense.
Dr Goodhead is a fine Bond girl. She will not make my favorites but she had cool moments. She just falls into the cool but not classic category for me. I liked her, she was pretty but personality wise I think there are better bond girls like agent triple X in the spy who loved me.
The action I'll give points to. It's fun and dumb. Once they go to space and the lasers come out it jumps that shark in a way that says just enjoy it. Before that I think the action in the Moore bond movies are cool. Admittedly they do start to blend together especially If you do a double feature but I had a good time with the action.
The bond theme and intro in the Moore movies continue to surprise me. They are no skyfall but each of them feel memorable and have a style to them that make it cool. Moonrakers theme is no different and I liked it.
So what can I say. Well if you look in the tags you can clearly see in my rankings so far I lean towards serious bond. Craig and Dalton being my favorites so far. Moonraker isn't completely for me. I can have fun with it and it has that so bad it's good feel. So I can enjoy it and have fun with it in the future. It will just never be a contender.
