This feels a bit like an American counterpart to the British 1984 film “Threads”. And while “The Day After” does not achieve quite the same level of bone chilling terror as its contemporary, it certainly accomplishes its principal mission of portraying the absolute horror of a large scale nuclear conflict. It is by all means quite a good movie; not as good by any as “Threads”, but still very good.
I “enjoyed” this, or rather it triggered all the right feelings of anxiety and fear in my brain. “The Day After” will haunt my dreams tonight.
That being said, I’ll now have to rewatch “Threads” to be able to compare the two, which I am not looking forward to.
