Can you imagine how awful this film would be today? A bland, rip-and-run Wikipedia movie from a streamer? Through that lens, Schrader's work is even more impressive

A lot of this film is solid. The first act provides some genuinely rich visuals with some insanely crafty cinematography and use of lighting. The rest of the film doesn’t recapture that, but it’s still solid. The by far highlight of this movie is Natasha Richardson’s performance. Tremendous acting that is subtle yet clear to the viewer and leaves me questioning what Patty’s real thoughts were.
