"Asking For It” has been sitting in my watchlist for a while as I was working through the stack, and after finally getting to it, the biggest plus of the film is Stephanie Hsu, who is good. However, she’s surrounded by insufferable characters who often boil down to saying or doing random things in an attempt to make you laugh. Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of jokes don't land, at best eliciting a mild chuckle. The film doesn't seem to play out cohesively, with the writer jumping back and forth between different issues without much effort to delve deeper into anything meaningful. Additionally, the film doesn't look very good, and the short runtime feels a whole lot longer than it should. Overall, it's not very good.
