You know this is a weird one when Christopher Walken and Grace Jones as Bond Villains are the best part of the movie.
Weird is probably the best way to describe this one, easily both amusingly weird and bafflingly weird, and how those things balance will definitely depend on the viewer. These Glen directed 80s Bonds are unusually strong at being solidly and comparatively down to earth compared to the earlier spectacle driven entries. This... isn't. There may be a better version of this movie possible, it has some compelling ideas. But this feels like a Glen/Bond film in structure, but the entire crew is having an off-day the whole production, and some type of push towards the 70s Hamilton directed films' campier style. And the result is just a mess tonally and production-wise, the editing is particularly bad here and not in an inventive or quirky way like some Bond films are, this is just plain bad. And yes, Moore is just too damn old. Not even his stunt doubles can hide.
There's some enjoyment to be had from it, especially if the more campy Bond is more your speed, and is probably the most bizarre film of the series. But for me, it's the odd duck in an otherwise strong run of Bond films and probably the worst of the whole series.
