The pre-code era was definitely harder and raunchier. The stories of gangsters and murderers in Midnight Mary slowly turns from a fun romp to a suspenseful thrill ride rich with romance and betrayal all while retaining that fun spirit. There are a lot of fun camera tricks that happen from time to time that make the film look impressive. I loved every long dolly shot
