The Outlaw and His Wife

**One Year One Film (9/116)**
Never thought I’d find myself liking a 2 hour silent film throughout its whole runtime, but here I am. The story follows very simple characters, but the different settings manage to unfold a wonderful yet tragic love story. The Outlaw And His Wife also delivers multiple themes (some include: love, survival, jealousy, along with societal norms and injustice), all wrapped up in that beautiful ending. After watching two of Victor Sjöström‘s films, I can safely say he is an amazing director.

Some of the highlights were Taste (Sabrina Carpenter), 1999 (Charli XCX), A Trophy Father’s Trophy Son (Sleeping with Sirens), Shimmy (System of a Down), and Break Stuff (Limp Bizkit).

Sjöström makes some pretty good silents and this is also a good one. Looks nice, but just a bit not much.

Surprisingly tragic and romantic, the acting is not melodramatic despite the period and although it is completely silent (yes, not even music) the time passes surprisingly quickly

Honestly a wholly decent film. The Outlaw and His Wife isn't a grand spectacular vision, but instead a rather enclosed story. While it isn't a technical marvel, the film is thematically richer than a lot of the films from the same era.

Enjoyable and surprisingly captivating, even though it took a little time for it to capture my attention.
