A devastating and deeply moving anti war film with some of the best writing and most stunning visuals of the early 1900s. The performances are great, Abel Gance's directing is superb, and there’s something so riveting about the film. I connected with it in ways I never imagined like I was so immersed in the story and the characters. It is pretty slow at times, especially during the second part of the film, but the payoff is absolutely worth it.
