Just want to point out that I once stood outside the Europa Hotel in Belfast, the city in which the movie takes place, for roughly 90 minutes waiting for my friend to show up. I later learned that very hotel holds the world record for the most bombings committed at any hotel. Also, great movie.

kinda got motion sickness from the camera work after that gym chase and spent the whole time unsure who i was supposed to root for besides hook. loved how it traps you in that same disorientation he’s feeling with no clear side nor safe ground. the ending lands bittersweet where survival feels sound enough after a pure 90 minutes of anxiety.

i mainly watched this for sam reid, but i ended up loving the film itself. it does a great job showing how messy and complicated the troubles were, especially the infighting between different groups, and how the english soldier ends up trapped between everyone, with danger coming from both the “good” and “bad” sides. sam reid was brilliant, and he definitely didn’t disappoint. the only reason it’s not five stars is because i wanted a bit more from a few parts of the story.
