FAMKE JANSEN OMG
Martin Campbell is responsible for TWO reboots of the franchise; this and Casino Royale. Both pushing the direction of Bond forward in equally creative ways. While people frequently credit Casino Royale for this, it’s impossible to overlook how much Goldeneye changed for the franchise. Relative to License to Kill, this film feels fresh and exciting, ready for the post Cold War era.
This movie wouldn’t work quite as well without its stellar script and supporting cast. There isn’t much filler here, a lot of action, and the back story is quite interesting as well. This movie contains two of the best Bond women of the franchise, mostly Famke Jansen who is one of the greatest of all time. She’s absolutely mad in the best way possible, adding an unpredictability and sex appeal to her part.
It’s also impossible to understate how great Judi Dench is, from her first appearance to her last. She adds so much character and depth to a figurehead who hadn’t been particularly intriguing up until this point. She also gives Bond humanity, and has great chemistry with both Brosnan and Craig.
Great film, and a great entry in an iconic franchise.
