how can a movie move so fast and so slow at the same time?
the first part feels like it encapsulated a thousand developments in like 10 minutes. in one moment, mia and frida dislike each other and are bickering and being passive aggressive. then, like 5 minutes later, frida is all flirty, mia kisses her, then she leaves and pretends like nothing happened, and suddenly they're in love?
then, the second part felt unbelievably boring. after they're suddenly in love, everything feels like them going back and forth, kissing, leaving, being confused, which would, normally, be a normal behavior for a human, but, in this movie, it all felt impossible to connect with.
literally every character except for maybe frida's mom and oskar felt unlikeable and annoying. the father started out as homophobic, mia and frida both cheated on their partners without feeling too guilty, tim acted angry and aggressive when mia showed no interest in having kids in the near future and literally sexually assaulted when she clearly did not want to have sex with him. what was he thinking anyway? he already knew she was with frida. to me, it seemed like he wanted to pretend like it didn't happen so they would get married and she would be trapped with him.
the ending fixed things a bit for me — the father, mia and frida became more likeable and relatable, and the ending scene was pretty cute. nevertheless, it didn't change how i could not connect with the story or with the characters throughout the movie.
