This is the most historically accurate depiction i've seen of henry viii and his wives. It focuses much more on his marriages instead of the dynasty or other characters like the thomas' which is a shame cuz they play a big role in each of his marriages. I love that they didn't romanticize him in anyway, he's accurately fat and disgusting towards the end of his life in the movie.
BEST katherine of aragon casting ever honestly she's not brunette. idk who started the miscast of KOA as a dark haired typical spanish looking woman but shes not and we have paintings of her to prove that. Her accent is also accurate, why would she speak perfect english english when she was raised in spain.
Also henry he's fucking blonde as well and physically strong when he was young, conventionally attractive (according to the time) good cast in terms of that.
Costumes are gorgeous to me at least absolutely adore them i love Catherine A and P's gablehood however i think P would have worn a french hood so inaccuracy there but it can be looked past.
Things they could improve on: show a bit more political context bc it's very relevant to the story of his marriages.
probably other things but i can't remember
Things i hated: depicting anne of cleve's as a conventionally unattractive woman as comedic relief. Obviously it's very dramatic and played out for laughs in a way familiar to the time but i don't like it. Henry did find anne attractive but he snuck up on her pretending to be a creep and she said he was ugly and that's why he didn't want her, cuz she bruised his ego like she's right obviously he's old enough to be her father and spots a stinky leg ulcer but he wants to be choosy. Basically, she wasn't ugly so it feels a bit misogynistic to make her the butt of the joke.
