Tsueno, count your motherfucking days, I wish you nothing but eternal suffering and regret. Got me going to bed all sad and pissed off and shit
Aside from this, (fuck you, Tsueno), truly a beautiful and bittersweet film that captures not only the exciting, yet fleeting and fickle nature of young love, but more importantly, a young woman’s journey of self-growth and discovery through her own experience with such love. Nothing, nor no one is promised. Some people are meant to stop by in our lives for the briefest moment of time, for reasons we may or may not ever understand. But what we choose to do with the memories and the learnings we derive from these experiences is what truly makes all the difference. Part of me wants to be bitter at Tsueno for opting for the banality of the “easier” route, which entailed leaving Josee, but part of me really would like to believe that Josee was able to take all of her experiences and memories from her relationship with Tsueno, and rather than look back on them with anger and spite, she took them and turned them into experiences that would help guide her towards achieving an even greater sense of independence, discovery, and self-growth. I am so glad I somehow stumbled upon this film, I loved it so. I would really love to read the original manga and watch the newer anime adaptation of it. My only real critique is that the ending felt quite rushed. But otherwise, raw, lingering, beautiful, visceral. Also, I cannot emphasize this enough, fuck you, Tsueno.
