I put this on because I saw a TikTok edit of James Spader with bleached blond hair and I fully thought this was gonna be a fun 80s teen drama high school movie. WRONG. Instead I got Florida psycho murder revenge insanity where everyone dies violently and the cops simply do not exist.
First, this movie escalates from “mean bullies” to “brutal premeditated murder spree” in about five minutes, and the film treats it like that’s totally normal. Siblings out here killing multiple people in creative ways and the narrative is like: yeah ❤️ justice ❤️ no investigation ❤️ Florida vibes ❤️ James Spader tied up wearing the most aggressively slutty blue underwear imaginable ❤️
Second, why does everyone in this movie need to die so brutally. Why are the siblings just straight up murdering like five people. Where are the police. Where is the investigation. These siblings literally kill like five people in very creative ways and the film treats it as totally fine. Abby’s brother is NOT acting in self-defense, that is premeditated murder. Mark and Karen are the only normal people here. Abby is debatable.
I did not expect kink discourse in this movie but here we are. This is yet another James Spader movie where things get weirdly sexual and uncomfortable for no reason. I thought this was finally gonna be a normal one. I was wrong. This just reinforces my long-standing theory that James Spader is physically incapable of being in a movie without something freaky happening. That’s his curse.
I was promised fun 80s trash. Florida is a lawless void and this movie exists in a moral universe where murder has zero consequences. I originally thought 2½ stars, but psycho James Spader with bleach-blond hair bumped it up to 3.
