The recurring theme of self-centeredness has been explored in various pieces of media countless times and will likely continue to be a prevalent topic. While I don't particularly dislike it, if one chooses to convey this theme, it should be executed impeccably. With that being said, Leave The World Behind leaves so much to be desired.
There’s a lack of cohesiveness in terms of direction throughout the entire film. It feels as if there were 5 different directors with completely different directorial styles. The overall lack of cohesiveness is clear.
Now, the camara work is INCREDIBLE, and not to discredit the director, but I’m more amazed with the director of photography than with the actual director of the film.
The screenplay proves to be notably lacking, failing to breathe life into characters, except for Rose. Her storyline is the greatest, most thrilling aspect of the film, successfully conveying the intended plot and message in a more original and engaging manner. The Friends subplot is funny, ironic, intentional, and even moving. I loved it.
Regrettably, the eerie music fails to enhance the film's tone, instead diminishing my engagement—a departure from the intended impact of music in movies. Music should be used as a device.
The set design and certain shots are commendable, yet the film as a whole feels notably deficient.
