Definitely a story that needs to be told, it’s crazy to me how many people outside of Canada and even in Canada know nothing about the Oka Crisis. Also, as a White person myself, some of the archival footage in this movie is disgusting, White people can be so crazy for no reason.
This movie is solid, it’s a welcome spin on a coming of age movie. At times it feels very much like Lady Bird if that movie had actual stakes and didn’t focus on a White girl. I do however have to acknowledge that I found a lot of the acting in this to be quite poor and it does verge on feeling like a made for Canadian TV movie at times. Not my favourite coming of age movie I’ve ever seen but definitely better and more interesting than some.
