( NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL 2020 : FILM #2 )
There is nothing more unfortunate than the coincidental showing of this movie tonight and the passing of a titan of upholding democracy in the United States, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. RIP.
Stacey Abrams became the poster-woman for voter suppression in 2018 when she narrowly lost the gubernatorial election in one of the closest elections in Georgia history to challenger Brian Kemp.
The storytelling of the systematic oppression of races and sexes is top notch. The guest speakers stories are harrowing, inspiring, and current. This documentary is never boring and goes further than what they teach in a high school government class by a long shot. Stacey Abrams story is just a dent in the change needed to stop blatant voter suppression.
I won’t say too much here, the film is packed with so many stories and information on laws and history.
Staying informed is one of the most important pillars of democracy. Pay attention. Don't allow the bullshit. Make your voice heard.
Vote. Vote. Vote!
( I do not rate Documentaries, but I highly encourage any of my US based followers to check this out. It’s available on Prime right now! Get involved and make sure you are registered to vote.)
