A beautiful, tender, and delicate film. The shots are simple, the camera deadpans and stays still, occasionally following the slow paced staging with a deliberate carefulness, enveloping the audience with its dryness that soon evolves into a story of growth: in self, love, and community.
God it's just so beautiful. I want to write a whole book about it and yet I don't think my vocabulary will suffice. The Man Without A Past, a film of minimal dialogues that still managed to deliver all of the characters' complexity, sharing a glimpse of a stoic Finnish society. This film tackles the trope of a lonely man wandering on a journey that no other movie has ever quite done it for me, highlighting somewhat a sense of liberty in not having to be bound to your past, a reemerging romance amidst the confusion of life, the warmth of community and acceptance. Peltola and Outinen shared the most perfect chemistry I have ever seen on screen. Ugh I just love everything about this film. Perfection.
