It takes over half the runtime to get to the hero’s adventure, the preceding half over occupied with silliness and buffoonery. There are several fantastic scenes ranging in effects, including a giant talking spider and three-headed dragon. These big fantasy tropes admittedly feel ahead of the curve for the big screen. Ultimately though the film as a whole is not particularly interesting, especially for a huge chunk of the beginning.
