As incredibly upsetting as the material is, uncovering the details of this tragedy has cemented the Holocaust as an important piece of all of our history. Most impactful obviously to Jewish people, but Dara of Jasenovac alerted me to the plight of Serbian people as well.
Incredible performances, impressively made up of a large portion of children. Especially the lead actress’s subdued portrayal of Dara, which got better and better by the minute.
There is a large amount of violence, which yes is realistic, but after awhile feels especially unnecessary to keep showing. But there is enough in the intricacies of the filmmakers’ decisions - including one incredibly well earned visual metaphor that appears throughout - to avoid a complete replica of a Holocaust picture.
