Wow what an underrated gem this is. This is a sequel to City of God (even though it isn’t really because it doesn’t share anything similar besides a similar setting).
The story is a little bit similar to City of God with rivaling gangs and stuff like that, but it’s done a little differently which I love. I like the characters in this a lot. Everyone actor in this movie puts on a great performance. I mean that also, not one bad performance in this which is really impressive. This story also hits very hard. It’s not as great as City of God’s story storytelling, but nonetheless it’s a good story that I think some people could relate to. The story is about overcoming and doing what’s right for yourself and your community.
The cinematography in this is actually just slightly below City of God, I absolutely adore how this is shot. The lighting in this is just so good. So many beautiful shots in this movie, I don’t think there’s even a bad one honestly. This also kinda keeps the cool camera shots that City of God had and that’s awesome because I loved those.
I’d also like to mention how great this looks on blu ray. For some reason this is one of the best looking blu rays I’ve seen and I didn’t expect it to come out of this movie, but I’m happy it did. The audio track on this is also very good and some of the best I’ve heard.
