movies that portray unusual, atypical and divers families that love each other platonically in such a normal way, strengthening their relationship while living their journey, bring me so much joy, peace and happiness.
but Kore-eda also shows us how we can't stay forever in a comfortable state in which we [finally] feel safe and secure. things change and we have to change with them, move forward and accept growth.
my favourite director, as for what he did with
Shoplifters (2018) [in which i think he did a better job], tries to build up a troubled thought-provoking family with unconventional characters.
the detectives' prospective should've been better explored because there were some scenes that i couldn't understand (for example Sujin talking at the phone with someone about a movie they had seen).
however, the casting did its thing. Bae Doona, IU, Song Kangho, and even Lee Jooyoung with her poor screentime.. all incredible actors.
there hasn't been a single Kore-eda's movie that i haven't cried over, yet. i hope to keep the streak.
