This one’s getting mixed reviews, and frankly, I don’t understand how the critics on Rotten Tomatoes praised this, but the audiences hated this. I’m leaning towards the audience with this.
If there’s a kind of movie I don’t like, it’s home invasion movies where the protagonists do nothing to protect themselves. There’s a scene where a woman was literally given a gun, and sure she was tied up, but her range of arm motion seemed hardly impacted, and she choses to shoot at her brother instead of the assailant! Ugh!
I’ve read comments where people found scenes from this film to be terrifying, but honestly many were so over the top I couldn’t help but laugh. Maybe if things were framed a bit differently, I could take them more seriously…idk.
I think there were a lot of cool ideas in here. I’d love to learn more about what the weird spirit things are. I think the main female antagonist did great. Some of the shots, particularly the glowing eyes on dark backgrounds, were cool. Kels and I just probably won’t rewatch this one anytime soon.

Although I lost interest by the final act this movie did a good job at building such a genuine loving family dynamic that it made me sick to my stomach knowing what would come next. The first kill is obviously expected leading up to it with the score and visuals, but I still was shocked by how violent and gruesome it was. Sadly after the big “family secret” is revealed by the father the movie felt like it lost a sense of direction.

One thing I have to applaud is the performances from the cast, the family and relationship dynamics felt realistic which really helped fuel the sense of upcoming dread.

Definitely feel like this one’s a hidden gem!
