Patrick Tam as director and Ching Siu-Tung as fight choreographer is a match made in heaven

This felt pretty middling. This is my second film by Patrick Tam and I just can’t seem to get on board. The charcters feel so paper thin and their motivations are all but hollow. There’s a great example to me where two characters fall from a tower through a straw roof. The next shot is them outside the house they fell through and fighting. This kind of thing feels like it’s working against itself emphasizing the lack of importance. With all that said there are some gnarly fights and shocking examples of gore. But this is largely forgettable with nothing of interest happening between fight scenes.
