This shit’s insane I’d kill myself as soon as I saw one of those things hit the surface.
This film is underrated as shit, I had genuine goosebumps whenever that fucking siren came on. Prolly one of the best sci-fi films ever.

If you have read the book, you’d understand how this is a hilarious adaptation. Maybe 1 or 2 things carry over properly from what H. G. Wells’ story.

Regardless it is fun and packed full of mid 2000s vfx which add to the excitement.

It was an insane choice for this to happen in a post 9/11 world by the way. As if New Yorkers didn’t have enough trauma.

I love this movie. It’s not perfect, nor would I ever say it’s one of Master Spielberg’s best movies out of his filmography… HOWEVER, it’s a great picture.

I love how one can see Speilberg’s new worldview after the 9/11 attacks and how much they shaped his filmography in the years after. It’s specially obvious how he expressed his fears and thoughts with this movie and I think that’s what carries it and makes me love it a lot. 

Do I hate the ending? Probably not, I have my problems with it but I don’t think it ruins the movie as a whole.

Having the aliens die because of bacteria is very dumb, even if logistically they would’ve died sooner or later as they’re not part of our ecosystem and therefore aren’t equipped for life on Earth. But it’s still pretty fucking dumb and does not work with what the movie had been constructing.

Terrific two-act of chaos and destruction that ultimately bleeds into an ending that is a lot less than satisfying. War of the Worlds is a suitably entertaining film with a great first half and a second that plummets in quality. It struggles with its tone, and with its characters at times, but overall this one is a fun sci-fi flick with good performances, and great direction, although the storytelling could be much better.
