Wai Bhone, a young film director, has to overcome the tough realities in order to direct his debut film. The hard worked scenario is criticised and undermined by the unpretentious censorship of the authorities. The film producers constantly pressure for lack of money, and even casting actors to the unfamous director is not an easy task. With the help of friends and relatives, the hardly prepared film production begins at last. However, an accident occurs in which an expensive camera is dropped. To fix the broken camera and to escape the difficult life, he even thinks of robbing the bank and he starts to plan.

I guess I just don't get the joke?
Thats what I assume anyways from the audience's reaction today, there were much laughter and heckling at the screen and by the end there were claps but not from me. I don't like to be a downer but I just don't find the comedy of Money Has Four Legs all that funny but instead confused.
What starts out as a semi lazy meta satire on the film industry gradually turns into a heist film then back to the film industry again and back to the heist film again without much to connect both besides the film being directed within the film being about crime but none of it works. This reminds me a lot of Leonor Will Not Die but trade that film's charm and playfulness for sloppy execution and cynicism and you get this. There is attempts here at creating a contrast between cartoonish logic with rough grounded realism but it just feels off putting and never clicks and thus the characters just comes off as stupid with every decision they make.
Speaking of the characters there's no one you care about here, the main character is a overly demanding but failing film director who is just as irresponsible and inconsiderate of his art as he is with his family, you may say that's just his characterization but there's nothing else to make you want to watch his story unfold. He is not larger then life or has any interesting deeper core to him, he's very one dimensional just like everyone else here and the proceedings further lets itself down with its mean spirit sense of humor. You laugh at the characters not with them here and so the film lacks humanity in that department.
Structurally and narratively unsound, poorly executed style and comedy, flat acting and just about everything in between is less rich and more uncooked. Again I might just not get the joke with this one but even then besides from "greed is bad" "greed is in the film industry" "greed is in government" there isn't much else to the joke. No punchline or subversion and despite some neat ideas here and there Money Has Four Legs despite its claim has nowhere to stand when it comes to landing what its trying to convey which is fitting for a film about debut features to achieve or not achieve in this case when it itself is a debut. Again I don't want to be harsh and atleast they make a film with interesting concepts and ideas but it just doesn't come across with bite or resonance. At best its almost like a poor man's Leoner Will Never Die and at worst its kind of abstractedly amaturish. Just watch Leoner Will Never Die, that's it.

Thats what I assume anyways from the audience's reaction today, there were much laughter and heckling at the screen and by the end there were claps but not from me. I don't like to be a downer but I just don't find the comedy of Money Has Four Legs all that funny but instead confused.
What starts out as a semi lazy meta satire on the film industry gradually turns into a heist film then back to the film industry again and back to the heist film again without much to connect both besides the film being directed within the film being about crime but none of it works. This reminds me a lot of Leonor Will Not Die but trade that film's charm and playfulness for sloppy execution and cynicism and you get this. There is attempts here at creating a contrast between cartoonish logic with rough grounded realism but it just feels off putting and never clicks and thus the characters just comes off as stupid with every decision they make.
Speaking of the characters there's no one you care about here, the main character is a overly demanding but failing film director who is just as irresponsible and inconsiderate of his art as he is with his family, you may say that's just his characterization but there's nothing else to make you want to watch his story unfold. He is not larger then life or has any interesting deeper core to him, he's very one dimensional just like everyone else here and the proceedings further lets itself down with its mean spirit sense of humor. You laugh at the characters not with them here and so the film lacks humanity in that department.
Structurally and narratively unsound, poorly executed style and comedy, flat acting and just about everything in between is less rich and more uncooked. Again I might just not get the joke with this one but even then besides from "greed is bad" "greed is in the film industry" "greed is in government" there isn't much else to the joke. No punchline or subversion and despite some neat ideas here and there Money Has Four Legs despite its claim has nowhere to stand when it comes to landing what its trying to convey which is fitting for a film about debut features to achieve or not achieve in this case when it itself is a debut. Again I don't want to be harsh and atleast they make a film with interesting concepts and ideas but it just doesn't come across with bite or resonance. At best its almost like a poor man's Leoner Will Never Die and at worst its kind of abstractedly amaturish. Just watch Leoner Will Never Die, that's it.
