9/10 hell yeah. (Rewatch) So I watched Top Gun: Maverick for the fist time yesterday and I loved it giving it a 10/10. When I was watching it I realized how much I forgot of Top Gun other than Goose’s death. Man this was such a fun movie and the duo of Goose and Maverick is honestly one of the best cinematic duos in movie history. Also I guess I forgot how great the romance was in this movie. Even though the bromance was better the romance was genuinely amazing with great writing. This is a movie about love at the end of the day. Love for friends, lovers, and planes. Tom Cruise kicks ass in his role especially after Goose dies because you can just feel his sadness through the screen. So many great performances here and the flight scenes are great but obviously not better that the ones in the sequel. The only part I was disappointed in was the final aerial battle. It just wasn’t suspenseful for me at all and felt pretty anticlimactic other than Maverick reengaging. RIP to the Iceman Val Kilmer as he kills his role here. After the sort of lackluster final battle the resolution is just so damn good. The soundtrack here just rocks and is so 80s. The piano scene at the bar will always be one of my favorite scenes ever because it is just so damn fun and it feels like you’re there just having a great time with them. This is a classic but I do like the sequel more but that does not make this movie worse because this is just amazing and timeless.
