This is a movie for your grandma. Like, I can picture busses of Red Hat Ladies (is that still a thing) fucking selling out screenings of this movie. It's a bunch of old English actors and actresses teaming up for a vanilla story about old people. There isn't anything particularly wrong with it, other that the pacing is really slow and not much is really happening in terms of any of the things you could want out of a movie: sometimes it's almost funny but never quite gets there, the drama is all very tame and not too exciting, and the stakes for everything are very low. Grandma doesn't want to try to try Indian food, it'll be too spicy. She doesn't want to try sushi, because she still believes that it's all raw fish and that sounds gross. She'll eat Chinese, but she only ever gets cashew chicken. This movie is perfect for her, because it's all very mellow with just a tiny dash of humor and drama, but not enough to be called a Comedy or a Drama. It's a very unchallenging vanilla movie. At times, it felt more like a travel advertisement for India, but it makes India look like it was a beautiful place that's now old and falling apart and swarming with homeless people and asshole kids. This film is a grilled chicken breast with steamed rice, which sometimes you are in the mood for; it's a safe dish that everyone can easily digest (yes, I realize their are gluten intolerant people, but fuck you, it's my analogy). Every character gets their cute little arc and nobody leaves angry, but they do all leave unfulfilled. It's fine; it's perfectly fine, but other than some solid acting from well established names, it's an empty experience.
