Beautiful representation of how strong familial bonds persist corrupt sports commissions 

Loved character development of specifically Pops. We are able to see him learn from his past mistakes with Rex and enact real change with Speed. 
Overall this whole family does a fantastic job of showing up for one another throughout all trials and victories 

Double fake out death / facial reconstruction surgery is actually hilarious

Opening race with ghost Rex is my favorite shot sequence of the film. Does great at establishing our core characters and their motivations. Also immaculately lit. 

A lot of the cgi doesn’t necessarily hold up, when showcasing real world items it is definitely most notable (wide shots of house / outside)
Race sequences hold up immaculately. Shaky camera and bright colors keep the audience engaged while helping to show the disorientation of Speed

When you think of a 2000s film, that’s what you think of. Pure perfect chaos with a beautiful storyline, visuals, and real-world lessons.

When I was younger I always wanted to be a racing driver (but ofc never came true) due to the thrill of speed and enjoyment of competition, it just felt natural, as if nothing could touch you and the world was moving slower than you. 

I like how speed racer went against the business side of the sport which so heavily impacts how it is run nowadays esp in F1, whereas money talks. However he doesn’t race for money, for a brand, for anything, but for himself and his love for driving. 

I don’t think dreams fully die out, I just think they change forms, and that’s what speed racer did for me.

Cars. Racing. Explosions. Fighting. Romance. Ninjas and Monkey? Sign me up everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. This is a guilty pleasure of mine and I’m not ashamed of the rating I gave it lol. Watching this as a kid re-wired my brain and I judge every racing film by this one’s metrics. I like racing films where the racing feels secondary to the plot, only there to push it forward (weird ik). The rewatch value is criminally underrated, it’s in the same realm of “Hoodwinked”.
