Well, not the best beginning, even I love humanistic films this one felt really bland. Nevertheless it had little sparks but maybe it’s me not familiarised with the context. Anyway the subject it touches it does it a very superficial way, just scraping the top of them.

CRITERION CHALLENGE 2025 #31:

Hailed by some as the greatest Québec movie ever made, I'd say it's up there as one of the most Québec movies ever made.

It's not perfect (kinda wandering around doing nothing in particular for over half the runtime before it gets going) but damn if I don't feel SO patriotic hearing that trad music and seeing those winter landscapes. C'est ma culture, c'est mon pays ❤⚜

Such a sweet(mostly) fun and realistic coming of age story told over a small moment in time in a great little town. The performances all around are never anything more than what they need to be, not over the top or ridiculous while also all being enough to stick in your mind. The story itself is just greatly enjoyable story with doses of humor, heart, and drama. The little town and multipurpose store at the center of the story is also established well and adds to the great story. Wonderful
