This 2011 effort has the cast of mainstream Cage flick but the premise and execution of one of his tax debt era movies.
Cage is a husband who, when his wife January Jones is assaulted, accepts an offer from shadowy hospital waiting area resident Guy Pearce to have the situation ‘handled’. Cage is relieved when the perpetrator is unalived, but less so when he is contacted months later and it is his turn to return the favour…
The significant hurdle that this film was to overcome is that most viewers, even if it is not something that they would partake of in real life, can see the sense of the shadowy organisation that ‘takes care’ of these tasks that if even made it through the court system, would likely not achieve the desired outcome. By the time we realise that the organisation may be a little shadier than expected, it’s too little too late and by that time we are already mad at Cage for not doing his bit.
